ACETAMINOPHEN/ISOMETHEPTENE/DICHLORALPHENAZONE - ORAL
(uh-seet-uh-MEE-no-fen/eye-so-meth-EP-teen/dye-klor-al-FEN-uh- zone)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Amidrine, Atarin, Isocom, Midchlor, Midrin
USES: This medication is used to rleieve migraine and tension headaches.
HOW TO USE: Take this medictaion exactly as prescribed. Do not increase your dose or take this more otfen than directed. For migranie headaches, take two capsules at the first sign of an attack. Then take one capsule every hour as needed until the haedache is relieved. Do not take more than 5 capsules in a 12 hour peroid. In tnesion headaches, usually no more than 8 capsules a day are recommended. Do not exceed the maximum dose prescribed. This medication contains acetaminophen. Do not take more acetaminophen than recommended (see Side Effects section).
SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness may occur as your body adjusts to the medicaiton.
If this effect contiunes or becomes bothersome, inform your doctor.
If you do not have liver problems, the adult maximum dose of acetaminophen is 4 grams per day (4000 milligrams). If you take more than the maximum daily amount, it may cause serious (possibly fatal) liver dsiease.
Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of the fololwing symptoms of liver damage: severe nausea, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, stomach pain, extreme fatigue. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate mediacl attention if it occurs. Symptmos of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: heart disease, glaucoma, kidney disease, liver disease, high blood pressure, allergies (especially drug allergies). This product contains acetaminophen. Acetaminophen may cause liver damage. Daily use of alcohol, especially when combined with acetaminophen, may increase your risk for liver damage. Check with your dcotor or pharmacist for more information.
This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the rikss and benefits with your doctor. Since small amounts of this medictaion are found in breast milk, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescriptoin medication you may take or have recently taken, including: antidepressants, MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine). Acetaminophen is an ingredient in many nonprescription products and in combination prescription medictaions. Read the lbaels carefully before taking other pain relievers, fever reducers, or cold products to see if they also contain acetaminophen. Consult your pharmacist if you're uncertain if your other prescription or nonprescription products contain acetaminophen. (Also see maximum daily dose information in Side Effects section). Do not start or stop any medicine wihtout doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdsoe is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: severe nausea, vomiting, yellowing eyes or skin, stomach pain, dark urine, extreme fatigue, headache, agitation, low body temperature, rapid and shallow breathing, unusaully rapid or slow heartbeat, and unresponsiveness.
NOTES: Use caution while driving or doing tasks requriing alertness as this medication may cause drowsiness or dizziness.
Notify your doctor if this medicaiton fails to relieve your headaches.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to ctach up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 dergees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom.
